Courtesy of USArtQuest 101 Craze & Crackle is a permanent, archival medium made to craze or crackle nearly any semi-rigid or rigid surface. It dries to an opaque, matte and Features and Benefits Archival & Acid-Free – Fine art materials and acid free papers maintain their original integrity because 101 Craze & Crackle is acid free and archival. Water Resistant – 101 Craze & Crackle is excellent for arts and crafts that must be in moisture laden areas. After coating a surface with a latex or acrylic paint, it has excellent wipeability for ease in cleaning. Non-Toxic – 101 Craze & Crackle is an excellent product when an artist’s quality must be used and there is an issue with chemical or product sensitivities. Lightweight – 101 Craze & Crackle’s light body is perfect for canvas work, not adding unnecessary weight. Adhesive/Cement – Small items can be embedded into 101 Craze & Crackle, adhering permanently in place. Tips for using 101 Craze & Crackle Crazing: Apply about 1/32" of 101 Craze & Crackle to a rigid surface. Use a palette knife or credit card to spread. Note that fine crazing will appear when applied thinly. Cover the surface completely to achieve the fine crazing. Crackling: Applied any thicker than 1/16" thick you will notice crackling. The thicker the 101, the crackling will appear deeper and spread further apart. Mixing: 101 Craze & Crackle can be mixed with Lumiere or any other acrylic based paints. Note: In thinner applications, adding a binder (paint or adhesive) to 101 Craze & Crackle will prohibit crazing. Also in thinner applications, apply paint to the surface after the 101 Craze & Crackle has completely cured. In thicker applications, paint can be applied in advance. Texture: Use for faux stucco/aged effects on decorative walls, paper mache, vases, rigid paper surfaces such as mat board and canvas. Use 101 Craze & Crackle for altered bookmaking, bookmaking, rubber stamping, scrapbooking or any art and craft project. Painting: First apply a dark color paint to the cracks. Let dry and then paint raised areas with a lighter color paint --- or vice versa. A more luminous technique is to paint the crackle with any acrylic paint. While still wet, rub Pearl-Ex in a contrasting color onto the raised areas. Achieving Flexibility: 101 Craze & Crackle can be made extremely flexible by flooding the entire finished crackled piece, using Perfect Paper Adhesive. The adhesive permanently and firmly adheres the fragmented islands to the surface, thus permitting the piece to be bent and flexed.
