Exclusively here! Shades of Clay is proud to present Helen Breil Designer Texture Plates. Stamps and other commercially available texture plates/mats are limited to designs produced from digital images, which are then mass produced such that the depth of the design is restricted to two distinct levels and fine detail is generally lacking. Helen Breil Designer Texture Plates are produced one at a time from a handmade mold that is capable of unrestricted and varying levels of depth and fine detail. Many of Helen's designs are complimented by subtle background textures that set these bold and beautiful designs apart and add extra dimension and interest to your work. The resin texture plates are rigid to produce crisp clean patterns and are not intended for use with a pasta machine. Helen's instructions, tips and suggestions for use are included with each order. To give you the best view of the patterns, the photographs below show the resulting textures highlighted with powders or paint. The accompanying text details the colours shown; use Helen's ideas or be inspired to create your own interpretation. Either way these plates are intended to take your work from the ordinary to the extra-special. These resin plates are also fabulous when used with a paper casting technique. No resist is necessary. Create your own paper renderings (from common everday bathroom tissue, card stock, tissue paper, napkins, etc. and a blender) which are perfect for card making, scrapbooking, journals, wall art and anywhere a unique textured design is needed. Add finishing details with chalks, acrylic paint, etc as your creativity dictates. By clicking on the designs below, you'll see Helen's paper casting of that design. For quick and easy (and inspiring) instructions to handmade paper, check our Publications page for Helen's booklet "Creating Your Own Paper Castings). We have featured some of Helen's work created with her texture plates in polymer clay and paper castings. Helen has generously designed these plates as a tool to be used in your work. You may freely incorporate these texture plate impressions into your work, whether your art is for personal use or for sale. Helen has also produced a booklet titled "Creating Your Own Texture Sheets". It appears below after the Texture Plates. Helen's Fracture Patterning Technique/Sheet/Pendant instructions are in the Winter 2007 issue of Step by Step Jewelry. Her Fold & Cut Bead technique is in the September-October 2006 issue of Step-by-Step Beads. Both publications are available on our Publications page. Have a question or comment for Helen? Craters..... a versatile design with a combination of smooth craters (that look great when complimented with Pearl-Ex) and a contrasting textured surface. This design also looks good in reverse (raised instead of indented). For this look Helen embellished the surface of white clay with a combo of Pearl-Ex Spring Green and Yellow followed by Turquoise. Tumbling Triangles..... This is a fun contemporary versatile design which is especially suited to the antiquing technique. Potpourri.... No shortage of visual interest in this design. Antiquing with acrylic paint or inks brings out the depth and details. It is great on larger projects like notebooks and switchplates but would also make a great lentil bead or pendant. What about adding crystals to the flower centres? How would this design look in precious metal clay? Lots of possibilities! Here we see two different colour combos. On the left, a combination of Sunset Gold and Brilliant Gold Pearl-Ex which was then antiqued with black acrylic paint. On the right, Perfect Pearls over white clay. Then Baja Blue, Magenta Pinata inks and rubbing alcohol applied to give a water colour effect. Click on the image to see Helen's paper casting of Potpourri. Size: 6 1/4 x 4 1/2"
Replication...... Lots of movement and dimension in this design with a very versatile scale. Helen used Super Bronze Pearl-Ex applied over gold clay. Black acrylic paint antiquing was applied after baking. Chili Pepper Pinata ink applied over all. Click on the image to see an elegant paper casting example made using card stock.
