It’s Quiet Around Here… and I Must Admit, I’m Liking the Sound
It’s quiet around here now.
And honestly… I must admit, I’m really liking the sound.
After so many years of packing orders, answering emails, managing inventory, and trying to keep everything running smoothly, the quiet feels unfamiliar — but also strangely right.
As many of you already know, I’ve made the decision to close the supply side of Shades of Clay after 13 years.
That sentence still feels surreal to type.
What began as a business eventually became something much bigger than that. It became a community of creative people who shared ideas, asked questions, experimented, learned together, and supported one another through countless creative seasons.
And for that, I’m incredibly grateful.
Whether you placed one order or a hundred, emailed me with questions, shared your work, or simply followed along quietly from the sidelines over the years… thank you.
Shades of Clay connected me with some truly wonderful people, and I’ll always carry that with me.
Now that I’m in this stage of life — and after turning 60 at the end of last year — freedom feels more important to me than ever.
I’m not entirely sure what the next version of my life will look like yet.
What I do know is that I’m feeling very pulled toward creating jewelry — not from polymer clay (whaaaaat?) — but from lightweight wood that I cut with my scroll saw and hand paint here in the studio.
It feels slower. More personal. More exploratory.
And right now, I’m simply allowing myself to follow curiosity again.
A Few Practical Notes
While the supply shop itself is winding down, the website isn’t disappearing.
My blog posts, how-to videos, workshop information, and other creative bits and pieces will still remain here to explore — along with whatever new jewelry work I begin adding along the way.
My Scratching the Surface workshop also isn’t going anywhere. All workshop links and access will remain exactly the same.
And my CaBezel molds? They’re quietly sitting off to the side for now until the next burst of inspiration arrives. I still love the idea behind them deeply — creating shapes that are easily repeatable, yet always original.
Where to Buy Polymer Clay Moving Forward
If you’re wondering where to buy polymer clay and supplies moving forward, I wholeheartedly recommend Polymer Clay Canada.
I’ve worked personally with Alec for years. He’s the behind-the-scenes half of the partnership and genuinely cares about customer service and the creative community.
Daria is the other half of the business — the creative side of the partnership and the familiar face many of you may already recognize from her Instagram presence.
Together, they’ve built something really solid, and you’ll be in very good hands.
I Hope This Isn’t Goodbye
I know many of you originally found me through clay restocks, tutorials, supplies, and product updates.
And I understand that this new direction may not feel relevant for everyone anymore.
But if you’d like to stick around while I figure out this next chapter — slower, quieter, and maybe a little more personal — I’d truly love to have you here.
Warmly,
Wendy
